President’s Message

Greetings and welcome to another exciting year with PASH. I am thrilled and honored to again be your PASH President for 2017-2018. I would first like to thank all of the volunteers who help to make PASH the great organization that it is. All of Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs are serving on a volunteer basis with the sole goal of making the Petroleum Accountants Society of Houston one of the leading COPAS societies. Many other committee members also serve on special projects and events, and PASH would not be able to continue without their outstanding support and assistance. The listing of all of the current board members and committee chairs can be found on the PASH website (www.pashcopas.org). Please feel free to contact any of the Board or Committee Chairs with questions or concerns. A special thanks goes to all of our PASH members who volunteered and provided key support for the COPAS Spring meeting last April in Shreveport. The event was a huge success due to the tireless efforts and dedication of our volunteers.

PASH is pleased to offer the COPAS Energy Education Series video workshops as part of our monthly meetings. COPAS has developed CEE-In-A-Box videos on various topics such as Gas Plant Accounting, Oilfield Production Accounting, Joint Interest Allocations and many more. PASH will be offering these as an additional CPE opportunity at our monthly meetings. CEE will begin at 1:00PM so as not to conflict with our normal monthly committee meetings. The details for each can be found in the monthly newsletter.

Our monthly meeting venue continues to be in Downtown Houston at the Whitehall on Smith Street. We began hosting our monthly meeting at this location last January, and the feedback from our membership has been extremely positive. Audit, Joint Interest, Revenue, and Financial Reporting/Tax standing committees; the technical sessions, the general dinner / luncheon meetings and the Holiday luncheon will all be held at the Whitehall. Directions and parking instructions will be in the meeting announcements and the monthly PASH Newsletter. Committee meetings are free and open to non-PASH members. CPE credits are available for attendance of Committee meetings and the monthly Technical Sessions, as well as the COPAS Energy Education sessions. The monthly dinner meeting dates are posted on the PASH website. There is no charge for the dinner meetings for PASH Members and are open to non-PASH members for a guest fee of $50, so PASH members please invite your associates and co-workers to attend the committee meetings and the dinner so they can see for themselves the benefits of being a PASH member.

As in the past, the PASH Volunteer program is partnering with the Star of Hope to offer volunteer opportunities to give back something to the community. Star of Hope is a Christ-centered community dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men, women and their children. Positive life changes are encouraged through structured programs which focus on spiritual growth, education, employment, life management and recovery from substance abuse. PASH sponsors an annual Toy Drive during our Holiday Luncheon as well as accepting cash donations to be presented to the Star of Hope. Other volunteer opportunities will be available throughout the year and will be announced in the PASH Newsletter and at the monthly dinner meetings. Suellen King, PASH Vice President, is our PASH representative with the Star of Hope for scheduling volunteer events. Please contact Suellen to volunteer and for more information on volunteer opportunities.

PASH has been a leader in COPAS for over 60 years. With your help and participation, this will be another great year of opportunities to be of service to the petroleum industry. Our business is one of cycles. We are currently in a down cycle due to lower energy prices, but our industry will bounce back and be stronger than ever. We need to continue to mentor and teach our new professionals so that the industry will be prepared to go forward in the future. Participation in PASH will be instrumental in making that happen. Knowledge transfer is essential for the prolonged growth and strength of the petroleum accounting profession. PASH offers all of that and more. I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to make PASH and COPAS great.
